TEL RUMEIDA, Palestine – The Israeli Antiquity Authority’s continued illegal excavations on the Abu Haikal land has led to further destruction of the family property. On Monday March 26, 2014, a bulldozer driver working on the excavation site undermined the foundation of Abu Haikal’s retaining wall. This was the second incident this month of the destruction of the retaining.
The Abu Haikal family called the Hebron police department, reporting the illegal excavations on them, despite waiting several hours, the authorities failed to appear at the scene of the crime.
This is not an isolated incident, but rather represents a prolonged campaign by lead archeologist Emmanuel Eisenberg and the Israeli Antiquity Authority to establish a “biblical museum” on the areas surrounding the Abu Haikal land.
Last week, the Abu Haikal family had reported the previous destruction of private property. The authorities showed up and issued orders for Eisenberg to halt work until the lines were clearly demarcating the boundaries of plot 54 and 53. This has yet to happen.
